Sacred Steel is a wonderful documentary that chronicles the use of the steel guitar (lap guitar) in the House of God Churches. The video traces the humble starts of the tradition (most of the churches were too poor to afford an organ) to the impressive collection of players that now exist in churches all over America. Whether you like jazz, blues, rock, or whatever, you will LOVE this music. This music is also interesting because it has a purpose...it is praise music. The church believes that this music will give you a glimpse of what heaven is like, and having heard this music alot...Heaven is gonna be pretty amazing !! I highly recommend checking out the Campbell Brothers , who , along with their mentor,Calvin Cooke, are the most popular group to break out of the Church. Their performances are not to be missed. They bring church out of the sanctuary and in to the concert halls. You will leave the concert hall exhausted and sweaty (from dancing) yet strangely energized because of the powerful positive energy you will experience. Major Stars like Eric Clapton , Paul Simon, James Taylor, and Garth Brooks have all listened to the Campbells and expressed interest in working with them. Even the Sopranos will be using one of their songs in an upcoming episode. Check this American Legacy out now, because, like the Buena Vista Social Club, every one will be talking about this rich tradition soon.

SACRED STEEL chronicles the use of the steel guitar (laptop style) as a praise instrument in the House of God Churches. From it's humble starts (most 1930's House of God churches were too poor to afford an organ !)to the amazing players current players that have brought this ultra passionate music out to the churches and into the "normal " world.I f you love the blues,jazz, gospel, or just love passionately played music, you will be amazed at the rich legacy that lurks in over 50 US cities in House of God Churches near you. For a real treat , check out the Campbell Brothers, who have only been playing outside of church for 3 years !! This music has magic and energy, and it serves a genuine purpose as praise music . The sound is is like a blend of the Allman Brothers and Al Green, and if your ever in Rochester NY, you can hear the Campbells most Sundays at their Father's church in Rush, you'll be glad you went and will want to go again and again and again...
